Dear Members of the Korean Association of EMG Electrodiagnostic Medicine!

I am Dr. Kwan-Ki Han in the Neurology Department at Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital of Korea. I am honored to be appointed president of the Korean Association of EMG Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and I am very pleased to convey my greetings and express my appreciation to the members through the homepage.

As all members know well, in our association, the departments of neurology and rehabilitation alternately take over the positions of president and chairman every term, and the responsibilities of the officers have also been shared harmoniously by the two departments. In this way, we have worked together for a long time without discord and have contributed to the academic developments in the area of electrodiagnostic medicine. I believe all of this would not have been possible without the cooperation of all the members and would like to express my sincere appreciation to them.

Since its establishment on December 7, 1996, our association has been developing continuously. Academic conferences have been held each year since the inaugural general meeting. Unlike other academic conferences, we hold workshops focusing on practical skills and techniques as well as presentations and academic lectures, thereby providing members with the opportunities to easily acquire useful techniques used in clinical practice as well as recent discoveries and the latest developments in electrodiagnostic medicine. In addition, we invite scholars who are actively engaged in research overseas to provide opportunities to learn about new and broad knowledge. Since 1999, we have been publishing the Journal of the Korean Association of EMG Electrodiagnostic Medicine. In addition, we have been engaged actively in information exchange regarding electrodiagnostic medicine and have made every effort to contribute to academic development of related fields. In 2002, our activities and efforts were recognized and our association was registered in the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences, and the homepage of our association was opened in 2007. As a result, the exchange of information among members has become more active and the development of our association has accelerated due to measures, such as the simplification of the responsibilities of the association. Since 2008, we have conducted electrodiagnostic medicine QC examinations for members after many years of preparation and issued certificates. Through these efforts, we have been able to restrict the indiscriminate overuse of electroneuromyography and improve the quality of the testers.

Recently, however, we have been faced with difficulties, such as a decrease in the absolute number of academic research papers contributed to the Journal and a decline in the number of applicants for the electrodiagnostic medicine QC examination. Our previous executive members and officers have made considerable efforts to overcome these difficulties. As part of these efforts, we have held training courses in the regional area since 2017 and were able to complete them successfully. In addition to offering these training courses, our association is continuously expanding academic lectures and workshops in the fields that would interest members, such as diverse diagnosis techniques of neuromuscular disorders, and therapeutic techniques as well as topics related to electroneuromyography. These efforts would not be possible without your support and participation. Therefore, I earnestly ask for your active encouragement and participation.

I am very pleased to see that our association has continued to develop over the past several years, even in a difficult medical environment. I would like to express my sincere appreciation again for the dedication of the former president, Professor Ko, Young-Jin, former chairman, Professor Choi, Young-Chul, and all other officers. I also wish you the best of luck in all of your pursuits and endeavors.

Thank you.

President of the Korean Association of EMG-Electrodiagnostic Medicine Ki-Han Kwon
